Fall 2011 Newsletter

Dear NPPOA Members:

I hope everyone enjoyed the summer.  While, on occasion, the heat was oppressive
and we did have some jelly fish, on balance, the summer seemed to be one of our
better ones of late.

The yard sale and the children’s picnic were great successes.  Considering the heat,
the annual wine and cheese party was also a success with 120+ attending.  Thanks
again to Arnold and Karen Blair for hosting the event for two years in a row.  For
those of you who have not been to the Blairs, the view overlooking Meadow Beach
and Cutchogue Harbor is spectacular.

However, as I said in my President’s message in the Fall 2010 newsletter, the view
would be a lot different without the efforts of some concerned people and the NPPOA
as it was Meadow Beach that the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Park District wanted to develop
for a public park.  Whew! And “thank you” to those who helped preserve tranquility
of The Point.  Meadow Beach is now owned by the Nature Conservancy and is safe
from development.

Speeding on The Point continues to be a problem and the speeders demonstrate their
lack of respect for our community.  As I have said on numerous occasions, our roads
are narrow and winding with many blind spots so before we have a serious accident
please slow down.  Be respectful of your neighbors and our community.

There was considerable discussion about our deer problem at the annual meeting.
To follow up, we have been in discussions and met with the USDA and Scott Russell,
Town Supervisor, and his deer committee concerning a deer remediation program
for Nassau Point.  The town is in support of such a program and has volunteered
refrigeration to help preserve the meat to feed those in need.  We are working out
the details with the Town and USDA and will be sending a letter providing additional
information and soliciting voluntary contributions to provide the necessary funding.
We have not determined a date or location(s) for a hunt at this time, but we will
keep you informed.

While additional information will be coming forth as mentioned above, this is our last
newsletter for the year.  The next will be mailed sometime around late March or early April.

Enjoy the beauty of fall and the serenity of winter.  See you in the spring.

Tom Cornwell
